Who wants to go to school today?

Every day I start my day with bus duty where I greet each child as they arrive off the bus at school.  It is a great time of day to interact personally with each student and say good morning.

Earlier this year I decided that I wanted to find a way to get students excited to be at school right away.  Each day students line up by grade at the door and I let them in.  I saw this as a great opportunity to do something with them to start the day with a smile.

What I do is:

1. Have students line up by grade.

2. Ask them all “Who wants to go to school today?”

3. They repeat “I do!” (as loud as possible)

4. If we have time I do it twice.

The students love this activity, and parents have commented that they really like it too.  The bigest benifit I have seen is that students hurry to line up to take part and it seems to have a synchronizing effect, everyone is paying attention and eager to participate!
